Trader Support Service (TSS) users urged to prepare for new platform
Businesses using the TSS should prepare now for the move to a new platform, with all goods movements from 20 October 2026 required to be submitted through the new system.
HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is encouraging TSS users to pre-enrol ahead of the switchover to ensure they can continue moving goods between Great Britain and Northern Ireland without disruption.
TSS is a free digital service supporting businesses with customs requirements for goods moving between Great Britain and Northern Ireland under the Windsor Framework.
What businesses need to know
From 1 October 2026, businesses currently registered with TSS will begin receiving emails with instructions on how to pre-enrol on the new platform. They will also be given access to a test environment to help users familiarise themselves with the new system before it goes live.
Businesses will need to:
- Pre-enrol on the new platform before 20 October
- Create a new password
- Check that company details and user permissions are up to date
- Familiarise themselves with the new platform using the test environment
HMRC estimates that updating a business profile should take between 5 and 30 minutes, depending on the information available and the size of the business.
20 October deadline
All goods movements taking place on or after 20 October 2026 must be submitted through the new TSS platform. The existing service will no longer accept new movements from this date.
HMRC has already contacted more than 66,000 registered businesses with guidance, webinars and other support materials.
While the underlying customs processes and legal and regulatory obligations remain unchanged, HMRC says the new GOV.UK-hosted platform will provide improved functionality and enhanced support.
What businesses should do now
Businesses using TSS should look out for their pre-enrolment invitation from 1 October and ensure their organisation is ready ahead of the 20 October deadline. Taking time to update account details and test the new platform in advance should help minimise disruption when the new system becomes mandatory.
If you’re already signed up for the outgoing Trader Support Service, you will be migrated to the new service and will not need to register again. Further guidance will be issued shortly to support you accessing the new service.
From 20 October 2026, all new movements must be submitted using the new service.
If you have any questions about the new service, you can call the new Trader Support Service contact centre on 0800 870 8173 between 8am to 5:30pm, 7 days a week.
