Under the government’s transition strategy, the sites will shift towards commercial management, with customs checks expected to migrate to alternative border facilities and for the trade to use simplified transit procedures starting in early 2027.

While current port operations and Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) processing at Sevington remain unchanged in the short term, the shift will require a large change for thousands of shipments reliant on the ports.
