HMRC Move from CHIEF to CDS - March 2024

HMRC UPDATES March 2024

All import declarations can now be made through the Customs Declaration Service (CDS).

CNS’s CDMS is ready and fully compliant with HMRC’s CDS requirements and many of our customers are using this service successfully.

To submit declarations to CDS through our system, you must first register directly with HMRC CDS. Official guidance on how to do this can be found by following this link: Subscribe to the Customs Declaration Service - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).

There is also an official YouTube video to show you step-by-step how to subscribe to the CDS here.

CHIEF to CDS Latest Deadline

All businesses should move all their export declarations from HMRC’s Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) system to the Customs Declarations Service (CDS).

Existing exporters still have until 4 June 2024 to move their last export declaration from CHIEF to the CDS.

Please note newly registered traders that after 20 March 2024, new CHIEF export badge permissions will not be issued and that they must subscribe to the CDS.

For any questions relating to submitting declarations to CDS with our CDMS, please contact our Service Desk experts who will be happy to help.
