During this period, traders and customs intermediaries should not submit customs declarations through CDS.

The outage will also affect movements through the Goods Vehicle Movement Service (GVMS). During the maintenance period, only goods with pre-lodged declarations attached to a Goods Movement Reference (GMR) will be able to move via GVMS, making advance preparation particularly important for weekend movements.

HMRC has advised that the maintenance window will be longer than usual. Freight operators, customs agents and businesses with time-sensitive weekend movements should review their plans in advance and ensure relevant teams, customers and partners are aware of the period of unavailability.

Source: HM Revenue & Customs, Customs Declaration Service availability and issues

📌 UK Expands Iran Sanctions with New Shipping and Trade Restrictions

The UK Government has laid new regulations expanding sanctions against Iran, introducing additional restrictions affecting shipping, trade, insurance and other transport-related activities.

The Iran (Sanctions) (Amendment) Regulations 2026 were laid on 8th September and are due to come into force on 29th September. The Government says the measures broadly reintroduce sectoral sanctions that had previously been lifted under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), alongside additional restrictions.

For the maritime and logistics sectors, the regulations strengthen controls covering shipping-related goods and technology, associated technical assistance and brokering services, and certain insurance and reinsurance activities. The measures also include restrictions affecting specified ships, including UK port access and detention powers, as well as controls relating to ship registration.

The changes also extend to aviation, including restrictions on Iranian cargo aircraft landing in the UK.

The expanded measures increase the importance of sanctions screening and due diligence for businesses involved in international shipping and trade, particularly shipowners, charterers, freight forwarders, brokers, insurers and other organisations handling Iran-linked cargo, vessels or counterparties.

Businesses potentially affected should review the new requirements ahead of their entry into force on 29th September and consider whether existing sanctions compliance procedures require updating.

Source: UK Government, Iran sanctions amendments effective from 29 September 2026

📌 Transportation Cost Pressures Remain Elevated for UK Businesses

Transportation costs remain an important supply chain concern for many UK businesses, according to the latest data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

Among businesses with 10 or more employees that reported concerns about supply chain factors, 46% expected transportation costs to increase. This was 12 percentage points higher than the equivalent figure reported in September 2025.

Cost pressures are not limited to transport. The ONS data also shows that 53% of businesses in this group expected the cost of sourcing materials to increase, highlighting the range of cost pressures continuing to affect supply chains.

For logistics and freight operators, sustained concern over transportation costs provides an important indicator of the pressures facing customers and wider supply chains. While cost impacts will vary between sectors, transport modes and freight markets, the figures suggest that transport costs remain a material consideration for businesses planning their supply chain activity.

Source: Office for National Statistics, Business Insights and Impact on the UK Economy

[65,50
112,113
post-7576","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","category-regulatory-updates","tag-hmrc-cds-mantenance","tag-iran-sanctions
["GET
